One of the assignments we were given last semester involved making a wordless comic to be Riso printed. I had been gravitating towards music like chillwave and vaporwave for a while and found myself listening to Neon Indian's album, Vega Intl. Night School, on repeat while working. I thought I would combine my love for the 80s, neon colours, and his music into a narrative featuring Jem from Jem and the Holograms being creeped on by a menacing gangster and eventually being rescued by this universe's Grace Jones and Siouxsie Sioux. After all, anything can happen in a seedy in a futuristic and retro city, can't it?
